Boys will be boys...

At yesterday's Father's Day gathering.....

Adorable 9-year old nephew: Auntie Annie? Where is your camera?

Me: It's right here.

Nephew: Um...do you have a dollar?

Me: I think so. Do you need a dollar?

Nephew: Well....um....

Me: (catching on) OH! Would you like to take pictures for me today and I'll pay you a dollar?

Nephew: Well, a dollar....or anything up to five dollars would be fine, really.

This morning after breakfast.....

Christopher was watching HoHoHo and Jacob was sleeping in his chair. When he started to stir, Christopher (always the helpful big brother) grabs my nursing pillow, wraps it around his waist, and then bends down to pick up his little brother.

If only it were that simple!

Burpers & Farters

My darling husband who makes every day better, every load lighter, every struggle easier, and every joke funnier. I've had the privilege of being his wife since July 2005. Of all the people I know, he is the kindest, the smartest, the most generous, and the most faith-filled. To say that I am blessed to be his wife is a severe understatement.

He can burp really loud. It's disgusting.

Our precious son who was born to us in September 2006. In many ways he is more like his dad than like me, although physically speaking he is a true combination.

He quickly filled the role of the loudest burper and farter in the house - and it's actually cute because it always makes him laugh. He once had a fart so big that it knocked him right over. I have to admit - it makes me laugh too.

Our littlest one made his appearance on May 22, 2008, promptly at 8:00am. Weighing in at a full 2.5 lbs less than his older brother, he looked more like Tim as a newborn than Christopher. The more he grows, though, the more similarities I see.

One similarity, of course, is the ferocity of the bodily functions. He had big shoes to fill in this department, and is doing so quite well.

A perfect combination of his two older brothers, Nate entered the world looking exactly like Chris but sized precisely like Jake. He came out squawking (and peeing all over the operating room) at 1:10pm on November 12, 2009. A mere 7lbs, 14oz (21 inches) he's my smallest one yet...but I know it won't be long until he's tackling those older brothers. There's a little spark in his eye that tells me he'll be just as much of a trouble maker as the other two.

Being the only female inhabitant of this house, I do recognize (and take quite seriously) my task of raising gentlemen in a world where good role-models are nearly impossible to find. But I also recognize the one thing that takes the seriousness out of it all - boys will be boys. And I am blessed to live among them.
